Lincoln Memorial University
Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, is one of the latest schools to jump on the pet-friendly housing trend, and it is the first school in Tennessee with such a program.
The school opened a dog park and pet-friendly dorm reserved for graduate or professional students in 2017. The university is currently home to 12 pets—seven dogs and five cats. A myriad of other small pets also are welcome, including rabbits, fish, small birds, ferrets, chinchillas, rats, hedgehogs, hamsters, sugar gliders, gerbils, guinea pigs, iguanas, and bearded dragons. The program is currently slated to span two years.
“Pets provide companionship for students who may be far away from home and gives them a sense of comfort that helps relieve the extreme stress of graduate and professional studies,” says director of residence life at LMU, Lee Wilkerson.
