It’s the hardest moment in any pet parents life: having to say goodbye to their faithful companion forever.

That moment sadly came for Grammy-winning singer Christina Aguilera, who announced in early January that she had to put down her beloved dog, Stinky.

In a heartbreaking post on Instagram, the star wrote that after 17 years together, she had to let her sweet Papillion go.

“You were my roadie through the tours…breakups…life’s many ups and downs” she wrote to her furry companion, who joined her in her life during some of her career highs, including the release of her “Stripped” album and the mega-collaboration “Lady Marmalade” with Pink, Mya, and Lil’ Kim.

The “Ain’t No Other Man” crooner wrote that Stinky was, “My 1st baby before I had any babies…The one and only forever.” Aguilera has two children (Max, 9 and Summer, 3) is also a dog mom to two other pooches, Coco and Scratchy.

Aguilera signed off on the post—which featured an adorable photo montage of Stinky set to set to Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna’s hit song “Loyalty”—with the message, “Run free and with no more misery.”

Don’t mind us, we’re just going to listen to “Beautiful” on repeat and cry for a bit.
