On January 19, talk show host and all-around funny lady Chelsea Handler announced via her Instagram that her beloved dog Chunk had passed on.

Handler, who shared an adorable picture of her Chow Chow (whom she rescued from a kill shelter) weating a bandana, called him her “chunky monkey” and the softest doggy in the world.”

The star even recalled a favorite memory of Chunk, sharing with followers: “When I was paddle boarding on the Hudson River in upstate NY and he was following me on the shoreline by the trees, and finally jumped in and swam a quarter of a mile to get on my paddle board with me.”

She wrote that she cried “that day at how much he loved me” and since his passing, “I’m crying because of how much I loved him.”

The animal rights activist shared a few photos and messages of love and gratitude for Chunk and all of his fans over the weekend, as well as an equally heartwarming post: the adoption of her two new dogs, Bernice and and Bert.

Calling them her two “new babies,” Handler is seen hugging her two new rescue Chow Chows, whom she adopted on January 21.

In addition to losing Chunk, Handler sadly had to say goodbye to her other dog, Tammy, in 2017.

While there’s no replacing Tammy or Chunk (of whom Handler wrote, “We were a couple”), Bernice and Bert have already been welcomed in to their new mama’s heart and home with open arms.
