Looking for a new on-the-go treat? Throw this tail waggin’ trail mix into a plastic bag and bring it along to recharge for your pup on a hike. The recipe, developed with Lisa Hennessy of Your Pet Chef, is both gluten and grain free to boot.
“This super easy recipe is great for leftovers. Any protein you might have in fridge will work,” Hennessy says. “If you want to start fresh, I’d recommend buying pre-diced meat. Also, many grocery stores have frozen veggies that will work perfectly.”
- 1 lb. chicken or beef, diced into ½” pieces
- 1 cup peas
- 1 cup carrots, diced into ½” pieces
- 1 parsnip, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup blueberries
*You can toss any combination of dog-friendly fruits and veggies into this dish
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Spread all ingredients on cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Bake for about three hours or until all ingredients are dried (a food dehydrator can also be used).
Store in plastic container or bag. When stored properly, the trail mix will keep for up to six months.
