Your Christmas tree is filled with ornaments that conjure up special memories, so why not let your pet leave his or her mark? Teaming up with your dog or cat to create their own holiday ornament is fun, easy and a great way to spend some quality time together.
In order to pull off this holiday craft, all you will need is your pet’s paw, some holiday-colored paint and the backdrop of your choice. Follow our directions, below, and you’ll have a fancy new addition to your holiday tree in no time.
Tools you will need:
- Construction paper
- Cotton Balls
- A clear ornament
- Red and green acrylic paint
- A tarp
- Damp paper towels or paw wipes
Collect all of the items that you will need (if you don’t already have them at home, you can find nearly everything at a local craft store or online). Then, lay a tarp down on the floor so that you protect your space from being repainted with colorful paw prints.
Squeeze some paint onto a paper plate and dip your pet’s foot into it. Use a sponge to wipe off any excess paint, as you want the paint to cover the surface of your pet’s paw but you don’t want it to be too thick.
Push your pet’s paw down gently onto a piece of paper to stamp it with the paw print. Immediately wipe the paint off of your pet’s foot with a damp paper towel or a paw wipe. Cut the paw print out in a circle that will fit inside the ornament.
Sprinkle some glitter onto the paw print to make it extra glitzy. Allow the print to fully dry. Once the print is dry, repeat the process on the opposite side of the paper, then set it out to dry.
Write your pet’s name on the top of the ornament paper. You can also write the year on the bottom of the paper.
Open up the ornament and place the decorated paw print inside. Drop cotton balls around the ornament to make them look like snow. You can also sprinkle a pinch of extra glitter onto the cotton balls to make the snow shiny and fun. Close up the ornament and hang it on your tree.
