Whenever there’s an unexpected “surprise” at a bachelor party, it rarely means something cute and heartwarming. But, in the case of groom-to-be Mitchel Craddock and his bachelor party, that was exactly the case.

According to ABC News, Craddock of Vicksburg, Michigan, was celebrating his nuptials with friends and family in the woods of Tennessee, when an uninvited (albeit very welcome) guest showed up at the door: a dog!

The canine—who they eventually named Annie, according to MLive.com— was apprehensive at first, but eventually warmed up to the group of men who befriended the pooch. “She was such a sweet dog that once we gained her trust, she was happy to see us, wagging her tail—just a big sweetheart,” he told ABC News.

When Craddock (an animal lover and dog parent himself, who actually proposed to his fiancee with his Lab by his side) realized that the malnourished and dehydrated dog was a mother, he and his crew set off to find her family. When they found the spot she had been protecting, it was home to her seven, weeks-old pups.

Craddock and his party helped clean up the flea-ridden pups, feed them, and get them into warm, loving homes. According to MLive.com, they also got some snazzy new names: Brinnie, Rosie , Daisy, Knox, Gunner, Bear and Finn.

In fact, all eight of the dogs were adopted by Craddock, his groomsmen, and other people related to the group. Even better, all of the pups will be living close to one another back in Michigan.

While these resilient and brave pups weren’t on Craddock’s registry, there really isn’t a much better wedding present.
